Responsibilties:
A day in the life of an Endoscopy Technician at Hackensack Meridian includes:

--- Greets patients, checks for proper ID on bracelet and papers, orients patients to the unit, and takes and records vital signs.
--- Participates in the plan of care for the patient in the Endoscopy Unit as directed by the RN.
--- Observes and reports all unusual conditions, reactions and occurrences to the nurse in charge.
--- Orders food from Dietary when necessary and assists patients with meals as needed.
--- Helps stock nutrition stations at the nurse's station and in the waiting room.
--- Transfers patients to x-ray or other departments when necessary for procedure.
--- Transfers patients and equipment using proper body mechanics.
--- Refers all information or questions from patients and/or families to RN.
--- Answers phones and responds promptly to requests using effective customer service skills.
--- Checks linen and CSR carts daily to ensure that they have been stocked properly.
--- Cleans and remakes stretchers after use, prepares stretchers and general area for next day.
--- Compiles endoscopy charts and assists with clerical responsibilities as needed.
--- Assists with patient emergencies by obtaining emergency equipment and performing other duties as requested by the RN. Has an awareness of emergency codes.
--- Assists with counting Code Cart and Anesthesia Cart and restocking when necessary.
--- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (ie, age, culture, language, hearing and/or visual impaired, etc). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver at their level (developmental/age, education, literacy, etc
--- Accompanies patients via wheelchair to lobby upon discharge when necessary.
--- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies
--- Up-to-date with Endoscopy competencies such as Blood glucose monitoring, urine pregnancy testing, CPR certification, and attachment of cardiac monitors. Utilizes these competencies under the direction of the RN.
--- Attends unit staff meetings
--- Maintains endoscopy equipment

Qualifications:
--- High School Diploma or equivalent required
--- Graduate of approved Nurses Assistant Program.
--- A minimum of two years' experience as a nursing assistant or technician required
