The IRC New Jersey Regional

office's Education & Learning department aims to meet the educational needs

of adult refugee, asylee, and immigrant populations in New Jersey. We offer a

variety of classes and services, including English language instruction,

Cultural Orientation, College and Career Readiness, and referrals to external

educational opportunities. Together, these form a comprehensive multi-faceted

program designed to meet the immediate and ongoing education needs of our

diverse group of clients.



experience working at a leading, global humanitarian organization; participate

in virtual team meetings & regular supervisor check-ins; partake in team

building, training & community outreach opportunities; practice your

language skills & make lasting impacts on the lives of IRC clients. Interns set a weekly remote work schedule and must supply their own

computer and internet access. All IRC internships are UNPAID.

*Proficiency in Arabic, Kiswahili, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Urdu, or French strongly preferred.


Enroll adult

students and in appropriate classes around NJ

Keep track of

client communication and follow-up on attendance


timely databases on the different tracking systems

Be an

advocate for clients' educational needs with external education service


Attend weekly

supervision meetings with the program Coordinator


* Gain hands-on experience working with refugee populations soon after they arrive in the US

* Learn about ELL and educational support

services for refugees & immigrant populations in NJ

* Build communication & outreach skills with students, community organizations & educational programs



* Undergraduate or higher pursuing degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field

* Teaching or tutoring youth preferred, especially for English Language Learners (ELL)

* Fluency in Spanish, Arabic, French, Swahili, Dari, Pashto preferred.

* Cultural competence and cross-cultural or overseas experience desirable

* Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations desirable

* Demonstrated ability to work in a remote setting, both independently and as part of a team
