Position Description TITLE:INTERN FOR UKRAINIAN LEGAL SERVICE
LOCATION: ELIZABETH, NJ
START DATE: MAY 2023 DURATION: MAY 2023- AUGUST 2023
POSITION REPORTS TO: Kristina Trachuk.
BACKGROUND: International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the
world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and
rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40 countries and over 20
U.S. cities, the IRC provides resettlement, education and
empowerment support to refugees and displaced people.
SCOPE OF WORK (INTERN):Data entry, screening potential clients,
communication with clients, filling out applications, maintaining
digital files, maintaining spreadsheet, other tasks and projects as
assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities will include communication with
clients, detailed maintenance of spreadsheet and digital client
file. Screening potential clients and preparing and submitting
applications for those with pathways withing our scope of services.
This will include TPS, work permits, family petitions, adjustment
of status, humanitarian parole, and Lautenberg applications.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Student will learn:
1.about immigration law and policy
2.about refugee resettlement and refugee social services
3.how to develop research and outreach skills
4.how to manage immigration case files
5.how to interact with multi-cultural and limited English-speaking
clients.
REQUIREMENTS:
---Undergraduate/graduate student required
--- Fluency in Ukrainian or Russian is required
--- Familiar with the mission of IRC and willing to represent it
appropriately
--- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
effectively with refugees, asylees and other immigrants
--- Familiarity with casework/database organization
--- Ability to work well with a culturally diverse staff
--- Prior experience in immigration a plus
--- Part or full-time internship; more than one position
available
