Job Title: Staff Pharmacist Profession: Staff Pharmacist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM / 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: 1 year of acute care chemotherapy trained experience required; 3 years highly preferred License: Valid New Jersey Pharmacist License required Certifications: Certified Pharmacist Must-Have: - Board certification in the general area of pharmaceuticals or a specialty - Chemotherapy review and preparation skills Description: The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the dispensing and monitoring of medication therapy in accordance with all applicable regulations and standards. Complies with all state and federal regulations and policies and procedures relating to drug dispensing. Handles drug products appropriately, adheres to security procedures, and completes necessary documentation. Controls and dispenses controlled substances and investigational drugs. Reviews and dispenses medication orders and clarifies potential problems with orders. Monitors patient drug therapy regimens for allergies, drug-drug interactions, and potential adverse reactions. Prepares admixtures using aseptic technique. Performs unit inspections to assure proper maintenance and storage of medication supplies. Oversees activities of ancillary personnel including pharmacy technicians and assistants. Employs principles of safe medication practice as dictated by departmental and organizational policies. Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 40 lbs., and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs. Communicates with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level. Adheres to the standards identified in organizational competencies. Hands-on experience with review of patient chemotherapy treatment protocols for proper dosing is required. Preparation of patient-specific chemotherapy infusion/injectable orders in a USP 800 environment using closed system transfer devices is required. Preferred skills include 1-2 years of hospital pharmacy experience and knowledge of unit dose dispensing and aseptic technique. Required education includes graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a minimum of a BS degree in Pharmacy.
